On the eastern seaboard of India,Odisha has a geographical area of 1,55,707 sq.km and total forest cover is 47,033 sq.km on which 7,073 is very dense, 21,394 is moderately dense and 20,388 sq.km is open forest. It covers 31.38% of geographical area of Odisha. Total protected area covers 6611.12 sq.km which is only 4.48% out of 11.2% geographical area are to be brought under protected area. The state is well-divided into four distinct physiological regions like Northern Plateau, Eastern Ghats, Central Table Land, and coastal plains.
