Jungle Kahuchi

Jungle Kahuchi   Forest with renewed vigour

Forest is the most beautiful creation on planet Earth. Being an important component of the environment, it needs proper conservation. Forests are habitats for diverse species and hence they sustain a majority of diversity in nature. Forests secure the life support system viable population of flora and fauna by their interdependent collective activities ensuring the quality of natural systems if kept at levels that maintain life giving quality for all life forms.

Our forests support and impressive assemblage of prey and predator species like elephants, tigers, Indian gauss, sambhars, dholes, etc. so there is a need to restore the entire forest biodiversity for long term survival of the poorer species.

Keeping this in mind, Jungle Lore Foundation launched its most awaited wild biodiversity conservation program “Jungle Kahuchi” a wild tale on 2021. This mega flagship programme involves forest-fringe villages of Odisha to protect and improve their natural surrounding. Odisha is unique in many ways, with 114 species of mammals, 539 species of birds, 129 species of reptiles and equally diverse species of plants. Every forest is an inexhaustible goldmine of information. This program will involve communities identifying their local flora and fauna, conservation status, its conservation requirements, how to protect green cover and what they can do furthermore. The key objective of this program is to become a bridge between State Forest Department and local inhabitants in any matter related to conservation of biodiversity, sustainable use of its components and equitable sharing of the benefits arising out of the utilisation of biological knowledge associated with them. To discuss and mitigate the emerging threats like the alteration, fragmentation, destruction of natural habitat, pollution, overfertilization, over exploitation, poaching, alien species invasion and climate change. We are considering engaging with all 30 districts of our state.

We are considering to engage with District Administrations, Youth Organizations, SHGs, VSSs and other bodies, local press and media to build a strong constituency for the future.

We are trying to sensitize the local minds through PowerPoint presentations, short documentaries, poster presentations, rallies, talks, distribution of saplings etc about nature, studying nature from a distance, etc. and to feel and share their place with peace.

“Leave forests to flourish on their own

Allow nothing to be done

Miracles will happen for sure”
